Kadigarh Forest Walk: A Quiet Sal Forest Morning in Bhaluka

A Kadigarh forest walk is one of the easiest ways to escape the city and still be home by evening. In Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh district, about 50 km northwest of Dhaka, the sal forest of Kadigarh National Park offers shade, red soil paths and birdsong, with no long journey.

This guide explains how to plan a Kadigarh forest walk, what to look for, and how to protect a fragile forest while you enjoy it.

Quick Facts

  • Suggested time: 2 to 3 hours on foot, or a half day with travel
  • Best moment: early morning
  • Good for: nature lovers, birdwatchers, photographers and families
  • Cost: transport plus a possible small forest entry fee

Why Take a Kadigarh Forest Walk?

Sal forest once covered large parts of Mymensingh, Gazipur, Tangail and Cumilla, but today only patches remain. Kadigarh National Park, established in 2010 and covering about 344 hectares, protects one of them. A Kadigarh forest walk lets you see the kind of landscape that shaped the region before towns and farms spread.

What You Will See on a Kadigarh Forest Walk

Tall Sal Trees

The park is mainly natural sal, a straight, strong hardwood tree. Walk slowly and look up: the canopy breaks the sun into soft patterns on the path.

Different Forest Zones

Researchers describe several zones inside the park, including hill and sal areas. As you walk, notice how the ground and plants change from one zone to the next.

Birds

Birdwatchers have photographed birds such as the Indian Pitta here. Early morning is the best time. Move quietly and keep a distance, and your Kadigarh forest walk will reward you with calls and flashes of colour.

The Forest Rest House

A forest rest house stands inside the park, and it makes a pleasant stop. Ask forest staff before using any building.

How to Plan Your Kadigarh Forest Walk

  1. Start early. Leave Dhaka before sunrise if you can, to reach the park in cool air.
  2. Travel to Kachina. The park lies about 1 km north of Kachina Bazaar, on the road between Siddhastor Bazaar and Sakhipur.
  3. Check in with staff. Ask about entry rules and which paths are open.
  4. Walk on marked paths. Stay together and avoid wandering into unmarked areas.
  5. Leave by afternoon. Plan to finish before the heat peaks.

Protecting the Forest

The Daily Star has reported that large areas of Bhaluka’s sal forest face the risk of land grabbing and tree felling. A Kadigarh forest walk can help by showing that visitors care. Carry out all plastic, never light fires, do not break branches, and report illegal cutting to forest staff.

What to Carry

  • Water, snacks and a small first-aid kit.
  • Closed shoes, long sleeves and insect repellent.
  • A pair of binoculars or a camera with a zoom lens.
  • A cloth bag for your rubbish.

Best Time for a Kadigarh Forest Walk

November to February is the most comfortable season, with cool, dry weather and clear trails. In monsoon the forest turns very green, but paths can be muddy and insects increase.

Combine It With Other Stops

A Kadigarh forest walk pairs naturally with the Bhaluka crocodile farm for a nature-themed day, or with a heritage day in Mymensingh city later. For more ideas, browse our Places to Visit collection.

Quiet, green and close to Dhaka, a Kadigarh forest walk is a small trip with a big reminder: forests are worth protecting.
