Andharmanik: The Hidden Abandoned Village Of Bangladesh
Hey there, adventure seekers! If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-path trekking experience in Bangladesh, let me introduce you to Andharmanik—a true gem tucked away in Thanchi, Bandarban. This destination promises an exhilarating adventure with its stunning landscapes and unique cultural encounters.
What's Special About Andharmanik?
Andharmanik is truly shrouded in darkness.Even during the day, it remains dark with a ghostly atmosphere. The place is always dark due to the minimal sunlight reaching it. You’ll be mesmerized by the mountains, waterfalls, rocks, and greenery if you visit there! You can even see your own reflection in the clear water there. There are stones beneath the water. Trekkers will find Andharmanik to be a veritable gold mine, with two unique phases: Narissha Jhiri and the Sangu River phase. The Sangu River phase, where the river meanders through verdant environs, is all about peace and visual beauty. Conversely, Narissha Jhiri is a natural wonder. Imagine imposing stone walls that appear as though concrete has been poured into them; this is an amazing sight because the area receives little sunlight and is always covered in shadows. It makes sense that Andharmanik means “dark gem” in translation!
How to Tackle the Trek?
Ready for a challenge? Although the journey to Andharmanik is difficult, it is well worth it for seasoned travellers. Proceed through Remakri, small Madak, and huge Madak on your route beginning at Dalian Para. There are both uphill climbs and riverfront walks throughout this eight-hour journey from Remakri. With its rough terrain and winding pathways, the last stretch is particularly difficult. Try to arrive at Boro Madak before dusk; walking the trek in the dark is not only challenging but also a little unsettling!
Permits and Practicalities
Just so you know, you can’t move forward without authorisation from the BGB camp at Boro Madak. Although there aren’t any army or BGB camps left after this, it’s still important to check in with them for security. You’ll need to take a boat to Andharmanik from Boro Madak, which will set you back about 2,000 taka. The boat voyage takes around two hours, depending on the water level, and you may have to get off and walk part of the way.
Experience Wildlife and the Culture
Beyond the journey, Andharmanik provides a deep cultural immersion. Introducing the semi-nomadic Murong community. A chance to sample their traditional food and discover more about their distinctive way of life is provided by these warm and inviting people. In the reserve regions, animals can be seen in their tracks. Look for indications of bears and wildcats, as well as the footprints of mountain deer. Adventure is enhanced by the untamed, raw aspect of locations like Alikadam.
Travel Advice to Ensure a Smooth Journey
