A captivating natural wonder, Madhabkunda Waterfall is tucked away amid the verdant surroundings of northeastern Bangladesh. Both nature lovers and adventure seekers should make time to visit this magnificent cascade, which is well-known for its breathtaking height and unspoiled beauty.

    A Legend of Divine Origins

According to local folklore, Madhabkunda’s name traces back to a mystical encounter. In 1335 AD, Raja Govardhan of Gour stumbled upon a meditating monk named Madhaveshwar while on a hunting expedition. The monk, yearning for divine union with Goddess Ganga, requested to be immersed in the nearby spring. As the monk entered the water, a celestial voice echoed “Madhav Madhav Madhav” three times, forever associating the waterfall with the name Madhabkunda.

    A Natural Marvel

Madhabkunda Waterfall, one of the highest in Bangladesh, is a breathtaking sight. The Gangamara stream, originating from the rocky Patharia Hill, plunges 162 feet into the depths below. The cascading water forms a substantial pool at the base, its depth increasing significantly during the monsoon season. Picnics and day trips are made possible by the peaceful and beautiful atmosphere created by the nearby forest, streams, and ecological park.

    A Religious Significance

For Hindus, Madhabkunda has religious significance in addition to its natural beauty. A nearby temple honoring the goddess is a well-liked destination for pilgrims, holding yearly festivals and rituals. Adjacent to the pool, on the right side, lies a cave revered as a sacred place of worship.

Madhabkunda is conveniently accessible from Dhaka. You can choose from various modes of transportation:
