The cascading Beauty Tinap Saitar Waterfall in Bandarban

The magnificent waterfall Tinap Saitar, also called Paindu Saitar, is tucked away in Bandarban, Bangladesh’s verdant forests. Tinap Saitar, known as the biggest waterfall in the nation based on water flow, enthrals both nature lovers and thrill seekers by providing an immersive experience in one of the most picturesque settings. This impressive waterfall is situated within the Paindu Canal under the Paindu Union, under the Rowangchhari upazila of Bandarban. The closest locality is Roninpara, located approximately 13 km from the falls.

    What to see

    • Scenic Trek: The trail to Tinap Saitar winds through a variety of landscapes, making it a test of endurance. Among the villages you’ll pass through are Keplong Para, Paikhong Para, and Ronin Para, each of which has its own sights and experiences to offer. The walk is full of breathtaking natural features, such as mossy trails and expansive vistas of the hills.
    • Majestic Waterfall: Tinap Saitar is breathtaking to see when you first arrive. Its ethereal atmosphere is further enhanced by the mist produced by the waterfall, which plunges about 150 feet. Trekkers are encouraged to unwind and take in the beauty of the surrounding greenery and crystal-clear waters. The lush hills and cascading waters make for amazing photo opportunities, so don’t forget to pack a camera.

    Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to visit Tinap Saitar is during the monsoon season from July to September. The waterfall is at its most beautiful during this time of year, when heavy rains increase its flow. But be ready for obstacles like uneven walkways and waist-deep water in the Pindu Canal. If you prefer drier weather, visiting between November and February offers a clearer trekking experience, but the waterfall may be less dramatic.

    How to go

Buses to Bandarban leave from Dhaka’s Kalabagan, Fakirapool, or Syedabad bus terminals. Non-AC buses cost around BDT 850-900, while AC buses range from BDT 1200-1800. The journey takes approximately 9 to 12 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

From Bandarban Sadar, take a tomtom ride to the Rowangchhari bus stand. Buses to Rowangchhari leave hourly and cost about BDT 80, taking around 1.5 hours. For larger groups, consider car rentals, which cost between BDT 1000-1200.

    Final Trek Details

Upon reaching Rowangchhari, secure a local guide. After discussing the itinerary with your guide, head to Roninpara. A Chander Gari (local vehicle) can take you near a steep hill, followed by an hour-long trek to Roninpara. Here, check in with the local army camp as required.

    • From Roninpara to Tinap Saitar: Start your hike early, as it’s a minimum four-hour trek from Roninpara to the waterfall. You will arrive at Debachharapara, where the trail winds through picturesque mountain ridges offering breath-taking views of the Pindu Canal, after about an hour and a half.

    • Return Journey:
For a different experience, consider returning via Ruma. You will return via breathtaking scenery on the trek, which includes a stop at Attapara. Chander Gari rides to Bandarban Sadar from Ruma cost around BDT 4000-6000.

    Accommodation

A wide range of hotels and guesthouses offer accommodations to suit diverse budgets, from modestly furnished rooms to more luxurious stays. It’s advisable to book in advance, especially during peak seasons. For those looking to stay closer to the trekking start point, homestays in Paindu village offer a chance to immerse yourself in local culture. These lodging options frequently offer a more personal encounter with the breathtaking surroundings.

    Travel Tips

    • Health and Safety: Ensure adequate rest and timely meals during your trek. Avoid trekking on a full stomach; light snacks are best before hitting the trail. Bring enough water, dry food, medicine, and insect repellents.
    • Respect Local Culture: Treat local communities with respect and friendliness. They can help you along the way and offer valuable insights.
    • Leave No Trace: Opt for biodegradable bags and be mindful of your environmental impact. Maintaining the cleanliness of the trails helps future visitors appreciate the splendor of this natural wonder.

Tinap Saitar is an adventure that highlights the wild beauty of nature rather than just a place to visit. Everyone who undertakes this journey will leave with priceless memories of the demanding and rewarding hike to this magnificent waterfall. Whether you’re gazing at the Sippy Arsuang hill or enjoying the refreshing waters of the falls, Tinap Saitar promises a transformative experience that resonates long after the journey ends.
