Zaheed Sabur, a proud Bangladeshi, is making headlines as the engineering lead behind Google’s Gemini app, which was formerly called Bard. He recently shared on Facebook about his inspirational journey, highlighting his tenacity as the key to his success.
Early Life
When Zaheed was born, his father was a professor at Saudi Arabia’s King Faisal University. His family moved back to Patuakhali, Bangladesh, when he was eight years old.
After he graduated from Manipur High School, he attended Oxford International School. Zaheed pursued further education at the American International University Bangladesh(AIUB), where he graduated with an astounding 4.0 CGPA!
Career At Google
In Bangalore, India, Zaheed started working as a software engineer for Google in 2007. Only six months later, he moved to the office in California. His patience eventually paid off, as in 2019 he was elevated to the position of director and principal engineer at Google’s headquarters in Zurich.
As the engineering lead at Gemini, Zaheed is currently developing a generative AI chatbot. This creative tool helps with writing, brainstorming, and creating images, making technology more accessible to all users.
The heart behind the work
Zaheed shared his belief that technology has the power to transform the world on Facebook. “Those who watched the Google I/O event today must be familiar with Gemini,” he wrote. As the engineering lead, my team developed the Google Gemini mobile app. Even though there is still much to be done, the effort required to reach this point has been well worth it.
“…I deeply believe that this work will benefit many people in many ways over time. I don’t know of any greater meaning behind anything in life. Much love and gratitude to all those who have prayed for me for this opportunity and achievement.”- said Mr. Zaheed.
Zaheed has given honesty and diligence a lot of thought. After his sophomore year, he continued to receive a full scholarship and never needed his parents’ financial assistance. A lot of young people are inspired to pursue their goals by his tale of independence and resiliency.
Acknowledgments and Gratitude
Zaheed acknowledges that his success has not been solely his own and that he has benefited from friends, family, and mentors along the way. He wrote in his heartfelt letter, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart—I couldn’t have done it without all your blessings.” His expressions of gratitude highlight how crucial teamwork is to success.
Zaheed Sabur’s rise from Patuakhali to a high-ranking role at Google is indicative of his talent and commitment. His status as the first principal engineer from Bangladesh encourages a lot of young people to pursue their aspirations. Apart from placing him at the forefront of technology, his work on the Gemini app also exemplifies the idea that anything is achievable with enough support and commitment. The path that defines us is full of development, hardships, and thankfulness, as Zaheed’s narrative poignantly illustrates.
