Anwar Ibrahim, the prime minister of Malaysia, will be the first foreign head of state to visit Bangladesh since the formation of the interim government on August 8. He is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka tomorrow. At the invitation of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, this visit is intended to improve bilateral ties in a number of areas, such as trade, education, defense, and the economy.
Around 2:00 PM, the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Following his arrival, he will check into a hotel for a short stay. At the hotel, Ibrahim and Yunus will have a bilateral meeting to discuss a range of topics, including trade and investment, economic cooperation, technology, education, and defense.
Discussions will also touch on Bangladesh’s aspiration to become an ASEAN “Sectoral Dialogue Partner” and the Rohingya issue, as Malaysia is scheduled to chair the organization in January 2025. Given the long-standing friendship between Yunus and Ibrahim, this visit is seen as a major step in strengthening the two countries’ relationship.
A delegation of 58 people, comprising ministers and senior officials from a range of industries, will be traveling with the prime minister of Malaysia. Having invested more than $5 billion, Malaysia is a significant investor in Bangladesh and has indicated interest in making additional investments in medical tourism and education.
In general, it is expected that this visit will strengthen diplomatic relations and promote support for one another between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
