Raspal Jami Mosque is a five-domed mosque from the nineteenth century in Sarishabari, Jamalpur, and it stands almost beside Narapara Fort. Banglapedia names it as one of the archaeological relics of the upazila. This guide to Raspal Jami Mosque explains what is on record, what to look for when you visit, and how to behave respectfully at a working place of prayer.

What the Records Say About Raspal Jami Mosque

Banglapedia lists the Five Domed Raspal Jami Mosque as a nineteenth-century relic of Sarishabari upazila. Tourist listings place it roughly a hundred metres from Narapara Fort. We could not find a detailed published history, such as who commissioned the mosque or exactly when it was built, so we will not invent one. What the record does give us is a clear period and a distinctive form: five domes.

What to Look For at Raspal Jami Mosque

We cannot describe the interior from published sources, so here is a visitor’s checklist instead. Notice how the five domes sit above the prayer hall and how the entrance arches frame the building. Look at the plasterwork and any decorative bands on the walls. Inside, if you are permitted to enter, the prayer niche (mihrab) shows the direction of prayer, which in Bangladesh is roughly west. Small details like these turn a short stop at Raspal Jami Mosque into a real look at nineteenth-century local building tradition.

Visiting Raspal Jami Mosque with Respect

This is a working mosque, so visit between prayer times and let worshippers go first. Ask permission before entering the prayer hall, especially if you are not Muslim or are travelling as a woman, because access rules vary from mosque to mosque. Dress modestly, remove your shoes and keep your voice low.

  • Do not photograph people at prayer.
  • Expect larger crowds on Fridays and during religious occasions.
  • If you wish to donate, use the official donation box only.
  • Follow the guidance of the imam or caretaker at all times.

The Wider Picture of Sarishabari’s Past

Sarishabari has a long learning tradition too. Records mention Pingna Madrasa, linked to the period of Emperor Shah Jahan, and Pingna English High School, founded in 1896. Pingna is one of the upazila’s eight union parishads. These institutions give a wider picture of the Sarishabari past that Raspal Jami Mosque belongs to. They are not formal visitor attractions, so treat any visit as a courtesy, not a right.

Plan a Half Day Around Raspal Jami Mosque

Start at Narapara Fort, walk to the mosque, then head to Tarakandi for the Jamuna riverfront. Sarishabari is roughly 25 km from Jamalpur town, so you can add it to a day in town or give it a half day of its own.
