Shibchar Railway Station: Madaripur’s Only Train Stop

Shibchar Railway Station opened on 10 October 2023 and is the only railway station in Madaripur district. It sits in Shibchar Upazila on the Dhaka-Jessore line and was built as part of the Padma Bridge rail link project. For a district that long depended on roads and ferries, Shibchar Railway Station is a quiet but important milestone.

Why Shibchar Railway Station Matters

The rail link was created so trains could cross the Padma and connect Dhaka with the south-west. Under that project, 14 new stations were built and 6 existing ones were repaired. Shibchar Railway Station is one of the new stations. Travellers can now reach this part of Madaripur by train, and the journey itself includes crossing the mighty Padma.

Station Facts at a Glance

  • Location: Shibchar Upazila, Madaripur District.
  • Line: Dhaka-Jessore line.
  • Station code: SHBCR.
  • Platforms and tracks: two platforms and three tracks.
  • Facilities listed: parking, cycle facilities and accessibility.
  • Previous station toward Dhaka (Kamalapur): Padma.
  • Next station: Bhanga Junction.

How to Use Shibchar Railway Station for a Madaripur Trip

The plan is simple: arrive by train, step out, and continue by road. From Shibchar Railway Station, local vehicles can take you toward Shibchar town and the Padma bank at Kanthalbari. For Madaripur town, continue by road after you arrive. It is not a long-haul rail journey into the town centre, so plan your last mile before you leave.

Check the Schedule

Not every train stops at every station. Check Bangladesh Railway for the trains that actually stop at Shibchar Railway Station before you plan your trip.

Buy Your Ticket Early

Padma Bridge trains are popular. Use official Bangladesh Railway ticket channels and buy early, especially around holidays.

Plan the Last Mile

After you leave Shibchar Railway Station, you will usually need a rickshaw, CNG auto-rickshaw or other local vehicle. Confirm the fare before you ride.

Travel Tips for Shibchar Railway Station

  • Reach the station early, since small stations can be busy when a train arrives.
  • Carry your ticket details and a valid ID if the railway requires them.
  • Keep some cash for local transport after you leave Shibchar Railway Station.
  • Save an offline map of Shibchar, as mobile signal can vary.

Pair Shibchar Railway Station with Nearby Stops

A train trip to Shibchar Railway Station fits neatly with a river visit at Kanthalbari Ghat and a history stop at Shamail village. That gives you rail, river and reform in one calm day.

Who Should Choose Shibchar Railway Station

Train lovers, budget travellers and anyone who prefers a gentle rail journey over a long road drive will enjoy this route. Shibchar Railway Station is also a good choice if you want to see Madaripur through the Padma Bridge story.
